Plan Ahead for a Healthy 2021

The much-anticipated New Year is right around the corner. Every year, millions of people around the world make new year’s resolutions, with hopes to be a better version of themselves by the time that year is up. But sadly, less than 8% of people stick to those resolutions. That’s why we are challenging our patients to plan ahead this year, and set a concrete plan for how they are going to prioritize health this year, both mentally and physically.

Prepare for Better Mental Health

We all hope that 2021 will bring the end of the pandemic and a more peaceful world, but it isn’t going to happen overnight. Likewise, neither is mental health. It is a process, a journey of learning and trying new things. Here are some tips for achieving better mental health in the coming year:

·      Set smaller, more attainable goals

·      Reward yourself when goals are reached

·      Stay ahead of your to do list and let yourself relax when things are accomplished

·      Set time aside for yourself, even if just for 15 minutes a day

·      Eat well and regularly

·      Exercise often and try to get outside whenever possible

You don’t have to stick to a perfect routine every day. Allow yourself room for error and forgive yourself if you get a little off track. All that matters is that you get back on when you fall off.

Prepare for Better Physical Health

Almost 50% of us make the resolution to lose weight every new year, but we all know that health isn’t about what you see in the mirror. That’s why this year we encourage you to strive for good health and not just good looks. Here are some tips for creating an overall healthier lifestyle:

·      Stop looking at the scale. Monitor how you feel instead. Your strength and energy levels.

·      Rather than forcing 2 hours at the gym 4 times a week, aim for just 30 minutes – 1 hour everyday so you can stay in a routine and dread it less

·      Healthy food can be delicious! Look up more recipes and try something new

·      Supplemental vitamins are great, but try getting more natural sources like fruits and vegetables

Set Your Annual Appointments Early

The last on our list is to of course keep up with all your annual check-ups and appointments. The best way to do so is to schedule them early and ahead of time. Be sure to fit in these appointments every year:

·      Primary Care Physician

·      Optometrist (or every other year)

·      Dentist (ideally every 6 months)

·      Dermatologist

·      Gynecologist

·      Radiologist

We are excited to see all that you accomplish this year ladies! Just stick to your goals and support each other, and we’ll be sure to make this year better than the last.
