Dr. Baras’ Health Advice for Women at Every Age
Life changes with every decade. And so does your body.
Women should stay tuned to the changes happening in their bodies and what comes with aging. Our newest provider, Dr. Baras is offering advice for women of all ages so they live happy and healthy lives. From hormonal shifts to mood swings, here’s what most women should watch for during each life phase:
In Your 20s.
“Women in their twenties should think about birth control and STD testing”, says Dr. Baras. “They should also be thinking about if they want to start a family.”
In Your 30s.
“If you are a woman in your thirties, you should continue to work with your OBGYN regarding family planning”, says Dr. Bara. “You should also start thinking about weight management.”
In Your 40s.
“For a woman in her 40s, I would recommend that women should schedule an annual mammogram”, says Dr. Baras. “Women in their mid-forties should also look into scheduling a colonoscopy.”
It is also important for women to look out for cholesterol and diabetes.
High blood cholesterol can lead to plaque buildup in the arteries, putting you at risk for heart disease and stroke. Because high blood cholesterol doesn't have symptoms, it is important to get regular cholesterol tests.
In Your 50s.
“Women in their fifties should start looking for signs of menopause,” says Dr. Baras. Signs of menopause include irregular periods, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, chills, mood changes, and more.
Dr. Baras also says that women should also work to maintain a healthy weight and schedule regular mammograms.
For Women 60+
“If you are a woman 60+, you should continue with regular mammograms and cholesterol tests”, says Dr. Baras. “When you enter your 60s, you should also start receiving bone density tests.”
A bone density test determines if you have osteoporosis — a disorder that makes bones more fragile and likely to break.
